About The Position

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks employees to teach Bridge Program classes in Japan. Bridge Program faculty develop and deliver quality instruction to English Language Learners (ELL) in academic English, focusing on the development of their speaking, reading, listening, and writing skills. UMGC is a mission-driven institution committed to adult learners and is a leading higher education provider to the U.S. military. The Adjunct Faculty Role at UMGC involves actively engaging students, guiding them in collaboration and application of learning, providing constructive feedback, and demonstrating relevant subject-matter expertise. The Bridge Program specifically focuses on academic English for ELL students.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in TESOL, ESL, or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Teaching experience in TESOL, ESL, or related field.
  • Experience teaching adult learners in a classroom environment.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications to include PowerPoint, Word, and Microsoft One Drive.
  • Must have and be able to maintain their own legal status in the country in which they apply to teach.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver quality instruction to English Language Learners (ELL) in academic English.
  • Focus on the development of students' speaking, reading, listening, and writing skills.
  • Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed.
  • Convey a genuine energy and enthusiasm for student learning.
  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work.
  • Acknowledge student accomplishments.
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise.
  • Help students connect concepts across their academic program.
  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
