About The Position

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on-site at San Antonio, TX, in the Natural Sciences program. Specifically, we are seeking faculty for the Elements of Nutrition (NUTR 100) course. This course is a study of the scientific and quantitative foundations of the applied science of human nutrition, aiming to understand how nutrition integrates across scientific disciplines and how foods provide essential nutrients for healthy living. The typical UMGC student is an adult learner juggling a career, family, and other priorities, with many being full-time workers, parents, and minority students. UMGC is also a leading provider to the U.S. military. The role of an adjunct faculty member is to engage students, guide them in applying their learning, provide constructive feedback, demonstrate subject-matter expertise, and offer feedback on curriculum. New faculty are required to complete a two-week online orientation, FacDev 411.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Nutrition, Health Management or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
• Professional experience in Nutrition, Health Management or related field.
• This position is to teach on site at San Antonio, TX.

• Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education preferred

Responsibilities

• Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
• Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
• Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
• Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
• Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
