About The Position

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach remotely for the Writing program. This adjunct position will be utilized for teaching throughout the full academic calendar year. We are seeking faculty able to teach academic, technical, and business writing. UMGC is a mission-driven institution committed to adult learners, serving approximately 90,000 students globally, including a significant population of active-duty military, reservists, veterans, and their families. The university emphasizes flexibility and options for its students, who are typically adult learners balancing careers, families, and other priorities. As a scholar-practitioner institution, UMGC seeks faculty who are actively engaged in their professional fields and wish to mentor the next generation of professionals.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in English or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Professional experience in English or related field.
  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.
  • This position is specifically to teach remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
