About The Position

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on-site at Travis AFB, California, for the Writing program. Specifically, the following course(s): Foundations of Writing and Communication (WRTG 111): The first course in the two-course series WRTG 111 - WRTG 112. Fulfills the general education requirement in communications. An introduction to essential skills in reading, writing, and speaking for academic and professional contexts. The goal is to develop proficiency in creating and analyzing different types of communication, including written, spoken, visual, and multimodal formats, while connecting ideas with others perspectives. Topics include integrating sources with attribution, exploring ethical and effective use of AI in communication, and making rhetorical choices to achieve clarity and audience engagement. Students may receive credit for only one of the following courses: WRTG 100A, WRTG 111, or WRTG 111X.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in English or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Professional experience in English or related field.
  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.
  • This position is specifically to teach on-site at Travis AFB, California.

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
