About The Position

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on-site at Fayetteville, NC, for the Natural Sciences program. Specifically, we are seeking faculty for the Elements of Nutrition (NUTR 100) course. This course is a study of the scientific and quantitative foundations of the applied science of human nutrition, focusing on how nutrition integrates across scientific disciplines and how foods provide essential nutrients for healthy living. UMGC is a mission-driven institution committed to adult learners, offering flexibility and options. The university is a global, 24-hour institution serving approximately 90,000 students, with a significant population of working adults, parents, minority students, and military service members, veterans, and their families. As a scholar-practitioner, the adjunct faculty member will engage students, guide learning through problem- and project-based activities, provide constructive feedback, demonstrate current subject-matter expertise, and contribute to curricular improvement.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Nutrition, Health Management or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
• Professional experience in Nutrition, Health Management or related field.
• Resume/ Curriculum Vitae
• Successful completion of a two-week online new faculty orientation, FacDev 411.

Responsibilities

• Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
• Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
• Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
• Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
• Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
