The Department of Theater at Augsburg University is seeking adjunct faculty to teach undergraduate courses in 2027. This search will establish a pool of instructors for potential openings in Spring 2027. A specific course opening is for THR 271 Black Theater, a 2-credit course meeting Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2:20 PM to 3:20 PM. This course explores the questions surrounding Black performance, including how to create drama that speaks to and for a community, how to perform Blackness, and who is considered Black. It offers an introduction to the history of African American theatre from the nineteenth century to the modern day, focusing on playwrights' evolution of the dramatic form and their claims to identity. Available courses vary by term, with most classes held during the day, 2-3 days per week. Instructors are expected to teach the class, grade student work, respond to student questions via email, hold office hours, provide course progress information, and communicate with the course coordinator. A course syllabus, textbook and homework selection, sample activities and exams, and shared office space are typically provided. Most classes are taught in-person on the Minneapolis campus. Each course requires approximately 12-15 hours per week for 15-16 weeks. The successful candidate will possess high intercultural competency and a commitment to inclusive practice and authentic representation. Adjunct teaching at Augsburg University is covered by a collective bargaining agreement with SEIU, Local 284.
