About The Position

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) is seeking part-time adjunct faculty to teach Philosophy and Religion (PY-RE) courses. These faculty will teach introductory courses, intermediate thematic surveys, and advanced topic seminars. The PY-RE program has strengths in social justice, environmental philosophy, underrepresented philosophical and religious traditions (including feminism, critical race theory, and non-Western worldviews), and studies of science, technology, and ethics. Anticipated teaching needs include courses in bioethics, philosophy of science, epistemology, non-Western philosophies and religions (especially Chinese traditions), and critical race theory. All adjunct applicants must be capable of teaching the core introductory course, 'Introduction to Philosophy and Religion.' Successful candidates will be outstanding scholars with demonstrated teaching excellence, versatility, and the ability to integrate creative and critical pedagogical approaches into an existing curriculum.

Requirements

  • PhD in Philosophy or Religious Studies, or be a doctoral student who is ABD.
  • Capacity to teach our core introductory course, Introduction to Philosophy and Religion.
  • Demonstrate teaching excellence and versatility.
  • Ability to jump into an existing curriculum with creative and critical pedagogical approaches.
  • Submit a cover letter that addresses relevant expertise and experience.
  • Submit a current c.v. that includes the names and contact information for three references.
  • Submit evidence of teaching experience (syllabi, teaching portfolio, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in social justice and environmental philosophy.
