About The Position

Holyoke Community College is seeking adjunct faculty to teach ECN 102: Introduction to Microeconomics in Fall 2026. This course provides an introduction to the basic principles, processes, and applications of microeconomics, focusing on how a market-based capitalist system determines production and distribution. Topics include supply and demand, production costs, industry structures, efficiency, equity, international trade, externalities, and public goods. The prerequisite is ECN 100 with a grade of C- or higher, or eligibility for MTH 014. Adjunct faculty are responsible for providing a quality learning experience, distributing and reviewing the course syllabus via the LMS (Canvas), utilizing active learning methods, and staying current in their professional content area. They will also arrange for necessary materials, accurately record student data, and be supportive of students' learning goals by focusing on outcomes, accommodating individual differences, and making students aware of campus services like the library, financial aid, and counseling. Adjunct faculty are expected to attend all scheduled classes and follow procedures for notifying supervisors if a class must be missed, providing an alternate assignment.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Economics or related field
  • Firm grounding in the subject matter of the course being offered
  • Experience using an online learning management system to support classroom instruction (Canvas preferred)
  • Commitment to and demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff & student body
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Provides a quality learning experience for Holyoke Community College students on a semester basis.
  • Reports to a dean and performs instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the college.
  • Distributes and reviews the course syllabus via the course LMS (Canvas).
  • Forwards the dean no later than the end of the first (1st) week of classes in each session a course syllabus.
  • Utilizes active learning methods and uses a variety of instructional strategies designed to assist the learner in meeting the objectives of the course.
  • Remains abreast of ongoing developments and practices in his/her professional content area(s).
  • Arranges for the acquisition and preparation of appropriate materials and equipment in a timely manner necessary to meet course objectives in collaboration with the area dean.
  • Is prompt and accurate in the recording and reporting of student data including assessment of student performance; including final grade reports.
  • Supports students' learning goals by focusing on student learning outcomes, taking into account the needs and abilities of the students, becoming familiar with academic and social support, making reasonable provisions to accommodate individual differences, maintaining the academic integrity of the college, and making himself/herself available to assist students in achieving their learning goals.
  • Recommends campus services to students as needed.
  • Attends all scheduled classes.
  • Follows appropriate procedures by notifying the supervisor or the supervisor's designee and is responsible by providing an alternate assignment if it is necessary to miss a class.
