About The Position

Teaches students effectively in assigned classes and maintains office hours for student consultation. Academic faculty positions require an on-campus presence, including when teaching online courses. All positions are considered onsite roles; after six months, some positions may be eligible to apply for a hybrid arrangement, subject to job responsibilities, operational needs, supervisor approval, and Dallas College policy. The position requires regular and predictable attendance and may include other job-related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

Excellent oral and written communication skills for interacting with students.
Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse populations, through formal training or past work experience.
Ability to provide quality customer service.
For credit classes transferable toward a higher degree: a master’s degree or higher and at least 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
For workforce education degree or certificate courses: a combination of academic preparation and work experience, including three years of direct or related work experience other than teaching.
For developmental courses: a bachelor’s degree or higher in the specific teaching discipline and demonstrated competency, such as teaching experience, honors, graduate coursework, or other related accomplishments.
Official transcripts are required at the time of interview.
May be subject to a criminal background check; some positions may require a fingerprint check.
May be required to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Responsibilities

Teach assigned classes effectively and maintain office hours for student consultation.
Provide students with a written course syllabus.
Evaluate the instructional process and use innovative strategies to improve learning.
Support the discipline by recommending books and materials, revising curricula, and recommending teaching assignments when appropriate.
Maintain accurate and complete course records.
Perform professional activities and responsibilities agreed upon with the division dean, and collaborate with colleagues toward shared goals.
Use knowledge of diverse communities and learning styles in instruction.
Participate in student advising and registration.
Use technology to facilitate learning, access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate.
Meet professional assignments in accordance with the System’s calendar and contractual obligations.
Comply with Dallas College board policies, applicable state and federal policy, and the student code of conduct.
Contribute to college mission and goals by participating in planning division objectives and budget requests.
Serve on and attend college committees as assigned.
Participate in campus commencement exercises as required and attend other required college meetings and activities.
Participate in performance appraisal.
Work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
May work with student clubs and organizations.
Communicate verbally and in writing with Dallas College and other organizations, businesses, community groups, faculty, staff, and students.
Promote the college in the community through marketing activities.
Participate in professional development activities and complete required Dallas College Professional Development training hours each academic year.
Perform other duties as assigned.
