About The Position

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on-site in Guam for the History program. UMGC is a mission-driven institution with seven core values, prioritizing 'Students First.' Founded in 1947, UMGC is committed to adult learners, offering flexibility and options as a global, 24-hour institution. Typical students are adult learners balancing careers, families, and other priorities, with about 80% working full-time. UMGC is also a leading provider to the U.S. military, serving service members, veterans, and their families. The Adjunct Faculty Role at UMGC involves actively engaging students, guiding them in applying learning, providing constructive feedback, demonstrating subject-matter expertise, and offering feedback on curriculum. The History Program at UMGC offers courses with descriptions available via a provided link. Teaching in Asia is also detailed via a separate link. New faculty must complete an online orientation, FacDev 122, as a condition of hire. The position is available and will remain open until filled. Salary is commensurate with experience. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in History or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Professional experience in History or related field.
  • Local applicants only.
  • Applicants must have and be able to maintain their own legal status in the country in which they apply to teach.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.
  • If selected, candidates with international degrees may be required to submit a translation/degree evaluation from a NACES approved vendor.

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
