About The Position

Mitchell College is seeking an Adjunct Professor for Nursing to deliver didactic and clinical nursing courses within its 4-year, direct entry Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. This role requires adherence to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The position involves approximately 4 credit hours of didactic instruction and 6 credit hours of clinical instruction per week over a 15-week semester. Responsibilities may extend to facilitating nursing science laboratory and simulation lab instruction during emergencies and other unforeseen events, in addition to institutional-specific duties.

Requirements

  • Active, unencumbered registered nurse (RN) license in the state of Connecticut.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited program of nursing.
  • At least 2 years of experience in nursing instruction and evaluation methods.
  • Knowledge of curriculum design.
  • Familiarity with the accreditation process at institutions of higher learning.
  • Deep commitment to diversity.
  • Proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, and TEAMS.
  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS) such as Moodle.
  • Completion of required health indicators such as a physical examination and immunizations (e.g., MMR, chicken pox, influenza, and others required by clinical agencies), titers, and tuberculosis screening at the time of employment.

  • An earned doctorate in nursing such as a Ph.D., DNP, or Ed.D. from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Professional portfolio with demonstrated excellence in scholarship, teaching, and research.
  • Five or more years of full-time experience in higher education.
  • Four or more years of full-time experience as a nursing didactic and/or clinical professor.
  • Four or more years of full-time experience with Ability Based Education (ABE).
  • Peer-reviewed publication in nursing or interdisciplinary healthcare journals and texts.
  • Current Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) certification.
  • Current Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
  • Current International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) certification.
  • Current Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver approximately 4-credit hours of high-quality in-person didactic instruction per week (approx. 2 hours of classroom instruction, 2 days per week).
  • Implement diverse teaching strategies and assessment methods to facilitate optimal learning among students with different learning styles and backgrounds.
  • Deliver asynchronous and synchronous online instruction via Moodle, Mitchell College’s learning management system (LMS).
  • Assist the Director of Nursing in curriculum development activities, including the creation of syllabi, projects, exams, quizzes, homework assignments, and rubrics.
  • Deliver approximately 6-credit hours of high-quality in-person clinical instruction per week (approx. 6 hours of clinical nursing instruction, 1 day per week).
  • Supervise students in various clinical settings including hospitals, out-patient clinics, psychiatric facilities, skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), assisted living communities, and homecare settings.
  • Implement diverse teaching strategies and assessment methods to facilitate optimal learning in clinical environments.
  • Design comprehensive activities for pre and post-clinical conferences and patient care assignments.
  • Attend and participate in convocation and commencement ceremonies.
  • Serve on assigned committees and task forces.
  • Participate in professional, staff, and informational meetings, which are occasionally scheduled during evening and weekend hours.
