About The Position

Ivy Tech Bloomington is searching for part-time faculty to teach on campus ceramics courses. We are looking for an enthusiastic instructor who will be engaged, respectful, energetic, and will bring a lot of creativity to the class room. This course is designed to introduce students to the various techniques, processes and aesthetic concerns of ceramics as a studio art medium. Focus will be on using hand-building techniques to create original artworks as well as an introduction to glazing and firing practices. Technique, concept and aesthetics will be discussed and used as a foundation for composition, execution and formal analysis in critiques. The class is 16 weeks Aug - Dec 2026 and meets face to face, twice a week for 2 hours 50 minutes: Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-3:50pm. The instructor will work with the Ceramics Tech and schedule firings to fit accommodate both credit and not credit courses. Ivy tech Fine Art students are receptive, responsive, and interested in learning. Adjuncts faculty make $46.75 per contact hour (hours with students). Interviews will happen on a rolling basis until position is filled. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

Requirements

  • Possesses an earned bachelor or higher degree in fine arts, or related field, from a regionally accredited institution
  • Completed academic preparation appropriate to the program and/or course being taught
  • A portfolio that demonstrates significant involvement as a practicing artist or designer
  • Professional certification in the field
  • Three years directly related work and exhibition experience

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
  • Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials.
  • Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
  • Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).
  • Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.
  • Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.
  • Conducts all activities with an appreciation, respect, and promotion of diversity of people, styles, and views.
