About The Position

Strayer University is seeking a dynamic Adjunct Faculty member to join their academics team. This role involves teaching undergraduate level English and Communications classes in a hybrid format, meaning instruction is delivered both in-person and asynchronously online. The faculty member will also maintain office hours and act as a coach and mentor to students, fostering a love of learning and supporting diverse learning styles. The position requires a commitment to building strong faculty-student relationships and a community within the classroom.

Requirements

Demonstrated knowledge of academic technology.
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) software and overall computer skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of academic evaluation.
Proficiency in oral presentation skills, planning, and organizing of course objectives.
Must have strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Effective time management skills.
Master’s degree in English, English Education, or Communications required OR Master’s degree in related area with at least 18 semester or 27 quarter hours of graduate coursework in Composition and/or Communications and/or Literature required.
Must be able to travel weekly to required location(s).
Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
Typical office setting.
Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor.
Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job.
Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant.
Access information using a computer.
Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain.
Effectively cope with stressful situations.
Strong mental acuity.
Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.

Nice To Haves

Teaching experience at the college level and online teaching experience are strongly preferred.
A terminal degree, or work towards a terminal degree, is preferred.
Professional certification in discipline specialty (if applicable).

Responsibilities

Teach assigned courses in the discipline, maintaining high standards of academic excellence.
Teach assigned courses in person and asynchronously online.
Maintain office hours as assigned.
Provide high-quality instruction using a pre-designed curriculum and professional expertise.
Enhance curriculum effectiveness using technology and videos.
Arrive on-campus at least half an hour prior to the start time of in-person sessions each week.
Utilize the online learning platform to enrich the student learning experience for the online component.
Be available to students via email, phone, text, and office hours for timely feedback.
Establish high standards and ensure students understand evaluation criteria.
Adhere to University policies and procedures.
Attend faculty meetings and workshops or training as required.
