About The Position

Strayer University is seeking a dynamic Adjunct Faculty member to join their academics team. This role involves teaching undergraduate level English and Communications classes in a hybrid format, meaning instruction is delivered both in-person and asynchronously online. The faculty member will also maintain office hours and act as a coach and mentor to students, fostering a love of learning and supporting diverse learning styles. The position requires a commitment to building strong faculty-student relationships and a community within the classroom.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic technology.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) software and overall computer skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic evaluation.
  • Proficiency in oral presentation skills, planning, and organizing of course objectives.
  • Must have strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Master’s degree in English, English Education, or Communications required OR Master’s degree in related area with at least 18 semester or 27 quarter hours of graduate coursework in Composition and/or Communications and/or Literature required.
  • Must be able to travel weekly to required location(s).
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Typical office setting.
  • Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor.
  • Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job.
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant.
  • Access information using a computer.
  • Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain.
  • Effectively cope with stressful situations.
  • Strong mental acuity.
  • Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience at the college level and online teaching experience are strongly preferred.
  • A terminal degree, or work towards a terminal degree, is preferred.
  • Professional certification in discipline specialty (if applicable).

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in the discipline, maintaining high standards of academic excellence.
  • Teach assigned courses in person and asynchronously online.
  • Maintain office hours as assigned.
  • Provide high-quality instruction using a pre-designed curriculum and professional expertise.
  • Enhance curriculum effectiveness using technology and videos.
  • Arrive on-campus at least half an hour prior to the start time of in-person sessions each week.
  • Utilize the online learning platform to enrich the student learning experience for the online component.
  • Be available to students via email, phone, text, and office hours for timely feedback.
  • Establish high standards and ensure students understand evaluation criteria.
  • Adhere to University policies and procedures.
  • Attend faculty meetings and workshops or training as required.
