About The Position

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on-site at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, in the Natural Sciences program. Specifically, we are seeking faculty for the Elements of Nutrition (NUTR 100) course. This course is a study of the scientific and quantitative foundations of the applied science of human nutrition, aiming to understand how nutrition integrates across scientific disciplines and how foods provide essential nutrients for healthy living. UMGC is a mission-driven institution committed to adult learners, serving approximately 90,000 students globally, with a significant population of working adults, parents, minority students, and military-affiliated individuals. The adjunct faculty role emphasizes scholar-practitioners who are actively engaged in their fields and wish to mentor the next generation of professionals. Faculty are expected to actively engage students, guide collaboration and application of learning, provide constructive feedback, demonstrate current subject-matter expertise, and contribute to curricular improvements.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Nutrition, Health Management, or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
• Professional experience in Nutrition, Health Management, or related field.
• Must be able to teach on-site at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota.

Nice To Haves

• Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education preferred.
• If selected, candidates with international degrees may be required to submit a translation/degree evaluation from a NACES approved vendor.

Responsibilities

• Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
• Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
• Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
• Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
• Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
