About The Position

Strayer University is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member to provide quality education and maintain high standards of academic excellence in teaching assigned undergraduate/graduate level Economics courses. This hybrid role involves teaching courses both in-person and asynchronously online. The in-person component requires 11 meeting sessions for 2 hours every week at a specific Strayer University Campus, held at a predetermined scheduled time (day/evening). The online component is instructed asynchronously. Adjunct Faculty are expected to act as coaches and mentors, fostering a strong faculty-student relationship and building a community in the classroom, while being flexible with diverse learning styles.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic technology.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) software and overall computer skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic evaluation.
  • Proficiency in oral presentation skills, planning, and organizing of course objectives.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • A Doctorate degree in Economics or a Doctorate in a business related field with a Masters in Economics.
  • Professional certification in discipline specialty (if applicable).
  • Must be able to travel weekly to required location(s).
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor.
  • Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job.
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant.
  • Access information using a computer.
  • Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain.
  • Effectively cope with stressful situations.
  • Strong mental acuity.
  • Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience at the college level and online teaching experience are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses as assigned from a pre-designed curriculum and utilize professional expertise to provide high-quality instruction.
  • Enhance the strength and effectiveness of the curriculum using technology and videos.
  • Arrive on-campus at least half an hour prior to the start time of in-person sessions per week during the academic quarter.
  • Utilize the online learning platform to enrich the student learning experience for the online component of the course.
  • Be available to students via email, phone, text, and office hours to ensure students receive quality feedback in a timely manner to support their academic success.
  • Establish high standards and ensure students understand how they will be evaluated.
  • Adhere to University policies and procedures.
  • Attend faculty meetings and workshops or training as required.
