About The Position

Barry University’s Department of Education and Leadership provides quality education in a caring environment for the adult student population. In addition to the campus in Miami Shores, we have satellite sites throughout Florida. The Adjunct Faculty member will teach courses in the undergraduate programs at locations in Miami Shores and/or Online. Courses are delivered in several formats, including synchronous/online, hybrid, and face-to-face. We are currently seeking adjunct faculty to add to our roster of contract faculty for assignments on an as-needed basis for the following Undergraduate Programs: Department of Education and Leadership: Essential Functions Courses are delivered in the hybrid and face-to-face formats, and terms are either 7 or 16 weeks in length (depending on program and course). Class times vary but are generally two times a week, Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday in person (Main Campus, Miami) during the day from 9-4 pm. Online courses are taught once a week for 2 hrs. on the designated day of the week, usually from 6-8 pm. Adjuncts are responsible for consulting with respective Program Directors in the development and execution of the course, as well as additional responsibilities outlined in the faculty handbook.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in education (Elementary, Early Childhood, ESE, or related field required).
  • Capacity to clearly communicate and articulate educational-related content and provide meaningful, supportive feedback to students.
  • Balance authoritative classroom leadership with an empathetic approach to student support.
  • Applied experience in the field is required.
  • Technologically proficient in Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Canvas.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree in the discipline of graduate teaching preferred for MS/EdS courses and required for PhD or EdD courses.
  • Prior college-level teaching experience with an adult student population is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Consulting with respective Program Directors in the development and execution of the course.
  • Additional responsibilities outlined in the faculty handbook.
  • Designing course lectures and discussions that keep students engaged.
  • Meeting grading deadlines, submitting final grades, and complying with departmental protocols.
  • Meeting students before and after class for advisement.
