About The Position

Being an instructor or faculty member is to provide high-quality education and mentorship to students. Faculty members are responsible for delivering engaging and effective instruction, developing and updating curriculum, and supporting the academic and personal growth of students. They also play a crucial role in fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, contributing to the college’s mission, and participating in community and college events. Faculty members are expected to stay current in their field through continuous professional development and to use innovative teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students. Additionally, they are involved in evaluating student progress, maintaining accurate records, and adhering to college policies and procedures. The role also includes mentoring students and acting as role models, thereby significantly impacting students' lives beyond the classroom.

Requirements

  • Current Indiana Dental Hygiene License.
  • Current CPR.
  • Possess minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Annual teaching methodology CE training.
  • Annual CE in subject matter being taught.
  • Minimum of 3 years of full-time experience working as a dental hygienist within the last 5 years.
  • Strong passion for teaching and mentoring students.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in dental software and/or dental technology.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learners.
  • Commitment to maintaining a positive and collaborative learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Mastery of Subject Matter: Demonstrate thorough and accurate knowledge of the field of dentistry/subject matter. Display an ability to interpret and evaluate theories in the field of dentistry/subject matter. Connect subject matter with related fields. Stay current in subject matter through updated continuing education.
  • Teaching Performance: Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning. Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies. Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs. Employ available instructional technology when appropriate. Encourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate assignments. Communicate subject matter to students. Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials. Support classroom efforts to promote student success.
  • Evaluation of Student Learning: Adhere to course and dental assisting program learning objectives. Develop and/or use evaluation methods which fairly measure student progress toward objectives. Evaluate and return student work within 7 days to promote maximum learning. Evaluate and provide immediate feedback in preclinical/clinical atmospheres. Maintain accurate records of student attendance and student progress using the learning platform and student success tools. Submit class roster’s midterms, final grades, skills/competencies, and attendance rosters to lead instructor, department/program chair, and administrators each semester according to established deadlines.
  • Support of College Policies and Procedures: Meet scheduled classes in accordance with college policy. Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and divisional policies. Maintain confidentiality of student information. Exercise stewardship of College facilities and materials.
  • Participation in College, Division, and Program Activities: Respond, in a timely fashion, to information requests from College, department, and program administrators. Contribute, when appropriate, to program curriculum development processes. Attend program, department, and College meetings and events as feasible.
  • Contribution to the Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs: Maintain familiarity with College goals, mission, and long-range plans. Contribute to planning and development processes where appropriate.
