About The Position

The Department of Communication and Sociology at Abilene Christian University (ACU) is seeking an adjunct faculty member in communication. This position involves teaching up to five courses per year, which may include public speaking, small group communication, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, and other courses as determined by the department chair. ACU is affiliated with the Church of Christ, and this role requires the employee to be a professing Christian who supports the university's Christian mission. ACU is an R2 university focused on integrating faith and learning, with faculty engaging in research alongside students. The department offers bachelor's and master's degrees in communication, an interdisciplinary minor in leadership, and hosts the ACU Speaking Center and a debate team.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in communication to teach at the undergraduate level.
  • Ph.D. in communication may be assigned to teach graduate-level courses.
  • A minimum of one year of college-level teaching experience.
  • A record of effective teaching.
  • Must be a professing Christian.
  • Must be willing to support the Christian mission of ACU.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in communication, potentially including public speaking, small group communication, interpersonal communication, and intercultural communication.
  • Integrate faith and learning in the classroom.
  • Engage in research with graduate and undergraduate students (as applicable to an R2 university).
