About The Position

Holyoke Community College is seeking adjunct faculty to teach Biology/Anatomy & Physiology for the Fall, 2026 semester in the BSTEM Division. Adjunct faculty are responsible for providing a quality learning experience for students on a semester basis, reporting to a Dean, and performing instruction-related duties in accordance with college policies. The role involves distributing and reviewing the course syllabus, utilizing active learning methods and diverse instructional strategies, staying current with developments in their professional content area, arranging for necessary materials and equipment, and accurately recording and reporting student data. Adjunct faculty are expected to be supportive of students' learning goals, focus on learning outcomes, accommodate individual differences, maintain academic integrity, and make students aware of campus services. Attendance at all scheduled classes is expected, with procedures to follow for any necessary absences. This is a MCCC Unit Position.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Biology or related area
  • Ability to teach in person/on campus
  • Experience teaching Human Anatomy & Physiology
  • Commitment to and demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff & student body
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

  • Experience teaching General Biology for Science Majors

Responsibilities

  • Provide a quality learning experience for Holyoke Community College students.
  • Distribute and review the course syllabus during the first class meeting.
  • Forward a course syllabus to the dean no later than the end of the first week of classes.
  • Utilize active learning methods and a variety of instructional strategies.
  • Remain abreast of ongoing developments and practices in their professional content area.
  • Arrange for the acquisition and preparation of appropriate materials and equipment.
  • Be prompt and accurate in the recording and reporting of student data, including assessment of student performance and final grade reports.
  • Be supportive of students' learning goals by focusing on student learning outcomes, taking into account student needs and abilities, and becoming familiar with academic and social support.
  • Make reasonable provisions to accommodate individual differences.
  • Maintain the academic integrity of the college.
  • Make himself/herself available to assist students in achieving their learning goals.
  • Recommend campus services to students as needed (e.g., library services, financial aid, counseling, supplemental instruction).
  • Attend all scheduled classes.
  • Follow appropriate procedures for notifying the supervisor or designee and providing an alternate assignment if a class must be missed.
