About The Position

The School of Arts and Sciences seeks adjunct faculty to teach biochemistry recitations for the Fall 2026 semester. All sections are taught as face-to-face, in-person courses, on Fridays throughout the day. Successful candidates will have at least one year of experience teaching, preferably at the college level. During recitations, the recitation instructor will assist students working through practice problems and administer quizzes that are provided by the recitation coordinator/lecture instructor. Problem solving, as well as interpretation and analysis of data from the biochemical literature will be emphasized during recitations. Course description: Students learn the structure, metabolism, and biochemical function of major macromolecules (proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids). Bioenergetics, enzyme kinetics, cell signaling, and regulation are studied at the molecular level. An emphasis is placed on cellular and physiological applications of biochemistry (in particular, competencies important for study in medical school).

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (masters or above) in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, or allied discipline
  • Minimum of one (1) year of teaching courses at the college/university level
  • Commitment to undergraduate student success
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Must be able to work independently and effectively interact with a wide array of parties at all levels (students, faculty, and administration/staff)

Responsibilities

  • Delivers engaging instruction in face-to-face, in-person classes
  • Provides assignments that demonstrate real-world applications of concepts covered
  • Provides students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School, texts, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria
  • Uses the University’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials and to communicate with students
  • Advises and assists students through in-person office hours or scheduled appointments, by videoconference, phone, or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms
