About The Position

Seattle Pacific University (SPU) is a Christian university seeking to engage the culture and change the world by graduating people of competence and character. The Chemistry and Biochemistry Program (CBP) within the Division of Natural Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and a minor in Chemistry. The program emphasizes scientific learning as a way of understanding Creation and developing students to be ethical practitioners of science with integrity in academics, experimental design, and data interpretation. This adjunct faculty position involves teaching laboratory sections for various chemistry courses, including General Chemistry, Survey of General Chemistry, Survey of Organic Chemistry, and Survey of Biochemistry. The role offers an opportunity to collaborate with SPU faculty to foster scientific integrity and a strong work ethic in students within the 1000-level chemistry lab curriculum.

Requirements

  • PhD or Masters degree in a branch of chemistry (or related field).
  • Bachelors degree applicants will be considered if they have teaching experience.
  • Commitment to support active, participatory learning experiences.
  • Personal commitment to Christian faith, enthusiasm about supporting SPU's mission, alignment with the University's Statement of Faith, and willingness to accept the lifestyle standards of the community.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching laboratory sections of General Chemistry (CHM 1211L, CHM 1212L), Survey of General Chemistry (CHM 1310L), Survey of Organic Chemistry (CHM 1330L), and Survey of Biochemistry (CHM 1360L).
  • Working closely with other SPU faculty.
  • Promoting scientific integrity and excellent work ethic throughout laboratory experiment experiences for students.
