About The Position

Alvernia University invites applications for a part-time adjunct instructor to teach undergraduate Communication courses in Reading, Pennsylvania. This position requires in-person instruction on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the upcoming Fall 2026 academic semester. The COM Department is looking for instructors for COM 140: Media Literacy in the Age of AI and COM 344: Technical Writing.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Communication, English, Technical Communication, Rhetoric and Composition, Media Studies, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.
• Ability to teach in person on the Reading, PA campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Nice To Haves

• Experience teaching technical writing at the college level.
• Previous undergraduate teaching experience.
• Experience teaching media literacy, digital communication, or related communication courses.
• Familiarity with Canvas or other learning management systems.
• Professional experience in communication, writing, journalism, media, or a related field is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned sections of COM 140 and/or COM 344.
• Prepare and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction.
• Develop and implement course materials and assignments that align with departmental learning outcomes.
• Assess student learning and provide timely, meaningful feedback.
• Maintain accurate attendance and grading records.
• Communicate regularly with students through the University's learning management system.
• Submit final grades and fulfill all adjunct faculty responsibilities in accordance with University policies.
