About The Position

Sullivan University is seeking an Adjunct Clinical Instructor for its Surgical Technology program. This role involves teaching and mentoring students to help them progress through their academic programs to completion. The position focuses on instruction and assessment of student learning in various environments, including face-to-face, online, hybrid, and HyFlex. Clinicals are typically held during weekdays, while labs are in the evenings. Requirements

  • Surgical Technologist certification through NBSTSA required.
  • Two years of experience as a certified surgical technologist.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership, customer service, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently while meeting required deadlines.
  • Ability to function efficiently in a stressful work environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, to include evenings, weekends, and travel to multiple locations as dictated by the course schedule.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, as well as to move about the campus.
  • Must be able to hear and speak well enough to communicate with students, faculty, and staff face to face, via the telephone, and through electronic medium (e.g., email, recordings, virtual meetings, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate student learning, deliver effective and career-relevant instruction, and provide a conducive learning environment within face-to-face, online, hybrid, and/or HyFlex learning environments.
  • Evaluate student learning for all assigned classes, respond to student inquiries, and grade assignments in a timely manner.
  • Engage students using various instructional techniques such as collaborative learning, experiential learning, and problem-based learning.
  • Deliver course curriculum utilizing the University’s learning management system.
  • Participate in course and program level learning assessments, including defining student learning outcomes, choosing and administering measures, evaluating student performance, and suggesting improvements.
  • Work with the Dean, Department Chair, and/or Program Director in the development and revision of course maps and course materials.
  • Schedule, supervise, debrief, and evaluate students in clinical, externship, observation, field experience, and similar settings.
  • Participate in student retention efforts by reaching out to students with excessive absences, documenting retention activities, and informing students about University services.
  • Communicate availability (e.g., office hours) to all students via email, phone, or other personal contact.
  • Attend graduation (encouraged).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
