About The Position

The Science and Mathematics Department at Rochester Christian University is seeking applicants for adjunct faculty positions in several disciplines, including chemistry, physics, earth science, biology, and ecology. These are in-seat classroom positions. Adjunct contracts are less than part-time and are made on a semester-by-semester basis, but often result in recurring assignments within a regular course rotation. Adjunct openings can occur on short notice due to enrollment numbers. The department consists of five faculty members who share a vision to develop professionals that recognize the value of stewardship and care in God’s world. Adjuncts are considered a significant part of the community and are invited to participate in department meetings, university activities, and mentorship initiatives. A successful candidate must articulate a Christian worldview within their discipline and teaching practices, and fully support the University's mission, indicated by demonstrated personal faith in Jesus Christ and active participation in a local church.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or higher in a relevant discipline
• Discipline-related master’s degree or a master’s degree and at least 18 graduate hours in the discipline.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the chair on syllabus and curriculum situated within RCU learning goals.
• Effectively plan active learning assignments in multiple modalities for student engagement.
• Confidently create and maintain appropriate educational records to document the academic performance of students.
• Fulfill adjunct duties as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
• Stay current in departmental and university policies, procedures, and practices related to the classroom to provide accurate information and support to students.
• If applicable, promote a safe lab environment.
• Promote an inclusive Rochester through the demonstration of our Diversity Statement.
• Participate in developmental activities to increase understanding and awareness of issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion both individually and as related to my field of work, profession or discipline.
