About The Position

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Elizabethton (TCAT) is accepting applications for an Adjunct Barbering Instructor at the Boones Creek Extension Campus. The schedule for this position will be up to 30 hours per week. The Adjunct Instructor of Barbering is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in classroom, lab, and clinical settings for students enrolled in the Barbering program. The instructor will prepare students with the technical skills, professional knowledge, and workplace competencies necessary to successfully complete the program and meet state licensure requirements. This is a part-time evening position, with classes held Monday through Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Requirements

  • Current Barber License in good standing (state-required).
  • Current Tennessee Barber Instructor License.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent professional barbering experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching or training experience in barbering or a related field.
  • Experience working in post-secondary or technical education.
  • Associate degree or higher in a related field.
  • Experience with competency-based education and/or learning management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver instruction in barbering theory and practical skills, including but not limited to haircutting, shaving, beard design, chemical services, sanitation, safety, and state board preparation.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with program curriculum and state regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate and supervise hands-on techniques in a lab/clinic environment.
  • Evaluate student performance through written, practical, and competency-based assessments.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and required documentation in accordance with institutional policies.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, sanitation, and infection control standards in the lab/clinic setting.
  • Provide academic guidance and support to students.
  • Participate in required faculty meetings, professional development, and institutional training.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, techniques, and state licensure requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
