About The Position

Pathfinder is a student success program for first-year students who need additional preparation for college-level academics and skills. Through developmental and appreciative advising, Pathfinder advisors support the whole student—promoting growth, engagement, and goal setting. This strength-based approach helps students build a growth mindset and connect with resources that support their success. This is a part-time position which averages approximately 10 hours/week during the academic year. During the summer when we are preparing for Summer Launch you will be working 10-20 hours per week and during Summer Launch you will work approximately 35 hours. This is not an essential position. We are looking for people who are interested in working in this program in an adjunct advisor role that may include teaching both TWP and Skills courses.

Requirements

  • A Master’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work or a combination of education and experience that supports the advising and teaching components of this position.
  • Familiarity and comfort with advising practices. (developmental and/or appreciative advising are particularly useful)
  • Comfortable using Appreciative advising techniques.
  • Familiarity with College Readiness skills.
  • Flexible teaching style that moves freely between strictly academic content and providing executive functioning support.
  • Comfortable using varied methods of teaching to connect effectively with a variety of learners.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in teaching TWP.
  • Willingness to make room in their teaching schedule to teach up to 8 credits for Pathfinder in an academic year.
  • Available to work up to 30 hours per week during the summer to create material, learn advising skills, and set-up for Summer Launch. A typical summer week of prep is 10-15 hours of work.
  • Available for Summer Launch (8/24-8/28) 5, 10-hour days. (Schedule subject to change).
  • Willingness to make time for students who reach out for assistance outside of traditional hours.
