About The Position

The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) is seeking dynamic, motivated, and diverse candidates for part-time faculty positions to engage and educate students in ESL (Credit) for the 2027 Academic School Year. This posting is to establish a pool of applicants, and hiring locations will review applications when openings arise. Successful candidates will collaborate, communicate, and work professionally with students, staff, faculty, and administrators. Applicants with a demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates can indicate their college preferences during the application process. Qualified applicants may be offered interviews with Language Department members at one or more of LACCD’s 9 colleges. Final assignment is contingent upon enrollment, funding, and class availability.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or education with a TESL emphasis; OR Bachelor’s degree in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate; or any foreign language with a TESL certificate AND Master’s degree in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speech, or any foreign language OR the equivalent.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work (for new employees, at applicant’s expense prior to employment).
  • Provide vaccination status in compliance with LACCD Board of Trustees’ policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated certification in Blackboard, CANVAS, Course Compass or other online modalities may be given preference.

Responsibilities

  • Teach ESL promoting engaging and inclusive educational environments that support student learning.
  • Be culturally responsive in interactions with students, faculty, staff, and community members who span a diverse range of languages, nationalities and ethnicities, socio-economic levels, ages, identities, abilities and educational experiences.
  • Conduct classes in a virtual learning environment using CANVAS or other methods of remote learning, if required.
