Adjunct, Automotive Technology
About The Position
This is a Part-Time Faculty Pool for available assignments during the academic year. The Adjunct, Automotive Technology Instructor will primarily provide hands-on instruction in all areas of automotive repair and maintenance for adult learners within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) at Jester 3 Unit in Richmond, Texas. This position supports Workforce Development and reentry efforts by preparing students with the technical knowledge, industry certifications, and employability skills needed for success in the automotive field. The instructor will deliver curriculum aligned with state and College standards, ensure a safe and productive learning environment, and collaborate with TDCJ staff and college administrators to maintain compliance with institutional and facility guidelines. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, demonstrated expertise in automotive systems, and a commitment to student growth, rehabilitation, and professional excellence. This position is limited to no more than 19 hours per week.
Requirements
- Associate's degree or higher in Automotive Technology or related field and three (3) years of non-teaching work experience in the field
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master certification and three (3) years of non-teaching work experience in the field
- Over (20) years of non-teaching work experience in the field
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, as well as intermediate computer skills.
- Familiarity with interactive teaching methods and instruction via the Internet.
- Working knowledge of Blackboard course management system.
- Working knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and the ability to use them responsibly, ethically, and in compliance with organizational guidelines.

Responsibilities
- Teach and supervise students using approved curriculum, syllabi, assessments, and instructional standards.
- Utilize effective teaching methods, technology, and educational resources to support student learning.
- Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and maintain accurate instructional records.
- Advise and support students regarding academic progress and connect them with appropriate College resources.
- Support student recruitment, retention, engagement, and overall success.
- Participate in curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain positive and professional relationships with students, colleagues, administration, and the community.
- Complete required reports, forms, meetings, and institutional responsibilities in a timely manner.
- Participate in professional development and maintain current knowledge of effective instructional practices.
- Adhere to Alvin College policies and procedures.
- Maintain automotive tool and equipment inventory as per TDCJ regulations
- Maintain logbooks for chemical supplies as per TDCJ regulations to also include SDS files
- Other duties as assigned.
