About The Position

The Department of Health Professions at St. John's University is seeking applications for an adjunct assistant professor position to teach in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences program. St. John's, established in 1870, has two New York City campuses and international locations, offering over 100 undergraduate and graduate programs. The Department of Health Professions includes the Physician Assistant Program, the Radiologic Sciences Program, and the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Program, all focused on preparing students for diverse medical disciplines through instruction, simulation, and laboratory experiences. Faculty in the department have diverse educational and clinical experience, contributing to interprofessional educational opportunities. Students are prepared for practice through hands-on training and mentored clinical preceptorships.

Requirements

  • Candidate must hold a master’s degree.
  • Hold current MLS (ASCP) certification.
  • Hold a license as a clinical laboratory technologist from the NYS Department of Education.
  • Demonstrate ongoing professional development in their respective or related fields.
  • Adequate knowledge and proficiency in their content areas.
  • Ability to teach effectively at the appropriate level.
  • The ideal candidate would work well in an interdisciplinary, team-oriented environment.
  • The adjunct must be compliant with the standards of the Clinical Laboratory Sciences National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) for teaching students preparing for the Clinical Laboratory Sciences profession.

Responsibilities

  • Developing the curriculum in their discipline.
  • Teaching the course at their appropriate level of instruction.
  • Preparing objectives for each lecture.
  • Arranging, administering, and grading all examinations.
  • Developing and utilizing additional instructional resources to aid in the mastering of material.
  • Evaluating the progress of each student as they progress through the course.
  • Participating in review sessions for the students prior to taking the ASCP certification examination.
  • Reviewing the results of the ASCP certification examination.
  • Answering students’ questions in person or by email.
  • Reviewing assessment of the course supplied by the student.
  • Attending continuing education events to keep current.
  • Teach courses as assigned by the Personnel and Budget Committee based on the needs of the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Program.
