Adjunct Assistant: Green Brigade Marching Band Percussion Instructor

About The Position

The University of North Texas (UNT) Green Brigade Marching Band (GB) is looking for a talented and student-centered percussion instructor to create a positive culture with high musical standards. Duties include arranging the percussion parts (snares, tenors, bass drums, cymbals, front ensemble) for all pre-game, halftime, and exhibition shows, stand-tunes (as needed), and coordinating percussion personnel for various campus and off-campus appearances. Duties also include instruction during band camp week (August 8-16) and regular fall semester rehearsals (M 4:00 pm-7:30 pm, W/F, 4:00 pm-6:30 pm). Attendance is required at all home game rehearsals and performances. If the band travels to an away football game (including bowl games), attendance is expected. Instruction occurs during the fall semester only. The drumline marching percussion instructor works with the Green Brigade director to purchase needed equipment. This is annually renewable at the discretion of the director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in music education or performance with a concentration in percussion
  • Ability to communicate with others to exchange information
  • Ability to move about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Ability to perform repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years teaching in the public school or university setting
  • Participation and/or experience teaching in the DCI or WGI circuits
