ADF Building Maintenance Worker I - FACILITIES MAINTENANCE

About The Position

Performs general maintenance duties to keep Sedgwick County facilities operating efficiently and in proper repair, clean, and safe for public use. Work is carried out in County buildings, including the Adult Detention Facility. This entry-level position works directly in the Sedgwick County Corrections Facility and has regular contact with inmates and other detention personnel. Maintenance work includes plumbing, electrical assistance, and general building maintenance. The employee repairs or replaces plumbing fixtures and drain lines; clears drains using hand-held or sewer-machine equipment; changes lamps and bulbs, converts fixtures to LED, and assists electricians; performs carpentry and lock work; paints and patches surfaces; operates trucks and equipment for loading; and replaces ceiling tiles. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid U.S. driver's license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance, as required for a driving-level position under Sedgwick County policy.

Nice To Haves

Two years of experience in maintenance or construction.
Mechanical aptitude.

Responsibilities

Repair, rebuild, or replace faucets, flush valves, shut-off stops, disposal units, and drain lines.
Unclog drain and waste lines using hand-held equipment or sewer-machine equipment.
Remove and replace toilets and urinals, including detention-grade combination toilet/sinks.
Change lamps and bulbs and convert light fixtures to LED.
Assist electricians.
Perform carpentry work to repair County buildings and furniture.
Remove, replace, and repair pneumatic, electronic, and mechanical locks; disassemble, install, and repair locks.
Paint rooms, hallways, and ceilings; patch holes and prepare areas for painting.
Drive trucks and operate equipment to load trucks.
Remove and replace ceiling tiles.
Perform related work as required.
