About The Position

This Direct Hire Additive Manufacturing Technologist role involves the comprehensive setup, operation, and maintenance of 3D printers utilizing various technologies. Key responsibilities include loading materials, preparing software programs, scheduling jobs, and performing daily and scheduled machine maintenance, including preventative upkeep and minor repairs. The technologist will also be responsible for post-processing parts through cleaning, washing, media blasting, sanding, and general assembly. Troubleshooting equipment and print issues is crucial for optimal machine performance. The role requires collaboration with design, manufacturing, and quality teams, referencing CAD models, and handling occasional administrative tasks such as inventory management and material ordering. Candidates should possess a strong mechanical aptitude, working knowledge of computer hardware and networking related to printing systems, and basic understanding of engineering drawings and CAD models. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is also required, and occasional domestic travel (less than 5%) may be necessary.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair 3D printing equipment.
  • Working knowledge of computer hardware and troubleshooting as it relates to printing systems.
  • Understanding of computer networking concepts applicable to printing operations.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering drawings, CAD models, and measurement methods.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Comfortable with occasional travel as needed to support business objectives (less than 5% domestically).

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in 3D printing, additive manufacturing, or related fields.
  • Coursework or certification in Design or Manufacturing with a focus on 3D printing.
  • Familiarity with FDM, PolyJet, and resin-based additive technologies, including Digital Light Projector (DLP), Continuous Liquid Interface Production (CLIP), and Stereolithography Apparatus (SLA).
  • Basic CAD skills for model interrogation and manipulation.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up 3D printers, including loading/unloading material spools, filling resin cassettes, preparing software programs, scheduling jobs, and sending prints to various machines using multiple technologies.
  • Cleans, washes, and prepares parts for post-processing, following standard procedures.
  • Performs daily and scheduled machine maintenance, including cleaning, preventative upkeep, and minor repairs, in accordance with safety and quality standards.
  • Executes secondary processing such as media blasting, sanding, and general assembly.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area through 5S and general facility upkeep.
  • Troubleshoots equipment and print issues to ensure optimal machine performance.
  • Collaborates with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to meet customer requirements, including referencing CAD models in Creo or Solidworks.
  • Handles occasional administrative tasks such as inventory management, material ordering, and part packaging.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned to meet business needs.
