About The Position

The Additive Manufacturing Machinist is responsible for operating, maintaining, and optimizing additive manufacturing (AM) systems to produce precision components, prototypes, and final products. This role blends traditional machining skills with advanced AM technologies, ensuring parts meet engineering specifications, quality standards, and performance requirements. The position is a full-time non-exempt position and will report to the Mechanical Engineering Chief Engineer.

Requirements

  • A High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification, associate degree in manufacturing, mechanical, or materials science required.
  • A minimum of three (3) year of experience operating and maintaining additive manufacturing equipment (FDM, powder-bed, etc.) and related post-processing tools.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of precision machining experience on CNC Mills, Lathes, and machine tool technology required. HAAS VF-2SS and manual Bridgeport mill currently in use.
  • Ability to operates in a manufacturing and R&D facility, in a controlled environment for sensitive AM processes.
  • Able to work varied projects in a rapidly changing environment with limited assistance.
  • Must have experience working in an AS9100 environment
  • Demonstrated experience with 3D printer slicing software, Solidworks, CAM (MasterCAM) software is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain additive manufacturing equipment (FDM, powder-bed, etc.) and related post-processing tools.
  • Set up and control AM processes, including parameter optimization, material loading, and build environment settings.
  • Selects tooling, fixturing, machine feeds and speeds, and methods, including calculating dimensions, to accommodate machining operations and processes.
  • Utilizes precision measuring equipment to machine and inspect parts and assemblies
  • Select and prepare materials (metals, composites, polymers) for AM, ensuring compatibility with process parameters.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, CAD models, and technical drawings to prepare parts for AM and hybrid machining.
  • Performs general maintenance and housekeeping of workplace, tools, and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing process issues, machine malfunctions, and quality deviations to minimize downtime.
  • Support R&D by contributing to new material development, process optimization, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and quality teams to ensure parts meet specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain records of process parameters, materials used, and inspection results for traceability and compliance.
  • Stay current with AM technologies, software, and industry standards to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Ensure corporate policies and procedures are adhered to in the day-to-day performance of duties
