Rennscot MFG•Woburn, MA
•$19 - $24•Onsite

About The Position

Rennscot MFG is seeking an Additive Manufacturing Engineering Co-op for Spring 2027. This hands-on role supports additive manufacturing operations and provides experience with advanced manufacturing processes and industrial 3D printing technologies. The co-op will plan, set up, and execute builds; optimize build orientations, support structures, and process parameters; post-process parts; troubleshoot failures; and help develop processes for new technologies and materials. The role also contributes to fixturing design and fabrication, process development, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and process documentation. The co-op may support other departments—including Quality, Subtractive Manufacturing, and Assembly—as business needs arise, and will prepare an end-of-term summary of contributions, lessons learned, and recommended improvements. The position is based at Rennscot MFG, an advanced manufacturing services provider in Woburn, Massachusetts. The work takes place in an active manufacturing environment and includes physical activity on the shop floor, computer work, and use of manufacturing equipment and precision measurement tools. Candidates must meet the stated U.S. export-control eligibility requirements for ITAR-regulated work.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Interest in additive manufacturing technologies and processes.
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar.
  • Exposure to build-preparation software such as Bambu Studio, Magics, 3DXpert, nTop, or PreForm.
  • Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations to conform to U.S. Government export regulations, including ITAR.
  • Regularly stand, walk, and move throughout the manufacturing facility for extended periods.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and reach to inspect equipment, tooling, work holding, and components.
  • Occasionally lift and carry materials, tooling, fixturing, and raw stock weighing up to 50 lbs; team lifts are required for heavier loads.
  • Regularly operate a computer workstation for extended periods.
  • Wear personal protective equipment on the shop floor, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed footwear.
  • Have manual dexterity for operating CNC equipment, hand tools, and precision metrology instruments, and be able to perform potentially repetitive motions involving the wrists, hands, or fingers.
  • Have visual acuity to read technical drawings and GD&T callouts, inspect machined surfaces and features, and use precision measurement tools.
  • Communicate with others to exchange information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with additive manufacturing systems such as FDM, SLA, SLS, or metal printing.
  • Knowledge of additive design principles and topology optimization.
  • Experience with additive post-processing techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, set up, and execute additive manufacturing builds using industrial 3D printing systems.
  • Optimize build orientation, support structures, and process parameters for quality and efficiency.
  • Post-process additively manufactured parts, including support removal, heat treatment, and media blasting.
  • Troubleshoot build failures and contribute to continuous improvement in additive processes.
  • Develop and refine manufacturing processes for new additive technologies and materials.
  • Design and fabricate work-holding fixtures for post-processing additive components.
  • Contribute to process development, build-layout refinement, and support-removal strategies to improve quality.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action for production issues.
  • Document manufacturing processes, build parameters, and setup procedures for repeatability.
  • Support other departments, such as Quality, Subtractive Manufacturing, and Assembly, as needed based on business demand.
  • Attend team meetings and contribute to discussions.
  • Complete an end-of-term summary documenting contributions, lessons learned, and recommended improvements for handoff to the engineering team.
  • Support other projects and assignments as needed.
