About The Position

Ford Racing is growing its Additive Manufacturing (AM) team to become a center of excellence within the company, with the goal of proliferating Additive Manufacturing throughout Ford Racing motorsports and production vehicle products. This team will be responsible for identifying areas where Additive Manufacturing can help Ford Racing develop efficient, cutting-edge, and exciting products. This position will be directly involved with the pinnacle products in Ford’s portfolio and will have significant visibility with Ford senior leaders and potentially with new or existing outside partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in Engineering
  • Deep Practical Additive Manufacturing experience including: Design for Additive Manufacturing, Build set-up (orientation, support development, slicing decisions), Build execution (machine set-up, part production), Quality confirmation (post-build scans or measurements)
  • Practical Design and Release experience for automotive components. Must have basic understanding of the product development process and able to work intelligently with engineers
  • Self starter, highly motivated for success
  • Passion for winning that will not accept excuses for failure
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, able to make decisions based on overall value analysis

Nice To Haves

  • Masters of Engineering and/or Masters of Engineering Management and/or Masters of Manufacturing Engineering
  • Enthusiast background, with passion for enthusiast products or motorsports.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Ford Racing Internally-Led Projects: Work with Design and Release (D&R) engineers and development engineers to identify areas where Additive Manufacturing can help in-flight programs by speeding up evaluation of design iterations or avoiding capital spend for production tools. Serve as the coach to D&R engineers to determine application suitability for Additive Technologies, develop designs compatible with AM, work with the manufacturing facility to design and execute the build, and guide the product through execution and industrialization.
  • Target future programs: Work with D&R engineers and the Architecture team to target specific systems, sub-systems, or components for Additive technologies in the up-front stage of future programs.
  • Represent Ford Racing in Externally (Non Ford Racing) Led Projects: Coordinate efforts with appropriate program and functional teams as required. Communicate program requirements (functional, timing, financials) to external partners to ensure a path to success.
  • Travel: Limited in the beginning for benchmarking site visits. Opportunities for more optional travel may exist (supplier or partner visits, etc.). All Ford facilities are currently in Southeast Michigan.
