About The Position

Suffolk County Department of Health Services is seeking an Addictions Counselor for the Riverhead Jail. This role involves interviewing and screening individuals for supportive counseling, planning and implementing individualized treatment plans, monitoring patient progress, and providing individual and group counseling services. The position also requires maintaining patient records and collaborating with supervisors and staff. Additionally, the counselor may conduct education and information sessions for individuals with substance use disorders and their communities.

Requirements

  • Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) AND a current certification from NYS Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS)
  • Current certification from NYS Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC)
  • Uphold the OASAS Scope of Practice and the Canon of Ethical Principals
  • NOT seeking CASAC-T certification

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of the requirements necessary to be designated as a Qualified Health Professional (QHP) with one year of experience or satisfactory completion of a training program in the treatment of substance use disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews and screens individuals for supportive counseling
  • Plans, implements and evaluates an individualized treatment plan for each patient
  • Monitors patient progress and makes recommendations for further treatment if necessary
  • Provides individual and group counseling services
  • Maintains patient records and reports
  • Collaborates with supervisors and clinic staff regarding patient progress and patient services
  • May conduct education and information sessions, workshops, and training programs for individuals with substance use disorders and members of their community
