About The Position

The Puyallup Tribal Health Authority (PTHA) is seeking a dedicated Addiction Medicine Physician, MD or DO to deliver comprehensive care in an ambulatory setting, with a strong focus on Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and whole person wellness. PTHA is a wellness community rooted in respect, culture, and service to the Indigenous population. The role involves providing full spectrum medical care, leading MAT programs, managing co-occurring conditions, supporting patients through recovery, educating patients and families, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and precepting medical residents and students. The position also includes participation in quality improvement initiatives, peer review, and maintaining accurate medical documentation. The physician will work closely with a supportive team, participate in an after-hours on-call rotation, and engage in hospital rounding for PTHA patients as scheduled.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Board certified in Family Medicine and current WA State license to practice medicine.
  • Current ACLS and/or PALS and/or ALSO certification.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records.
  • Experience teaching or precepting medical residents.
  • Commitment to teamwork, cultural humility, ethical standards, and high-quality care.
  • A genuine heart for service and respect for the Indigenous community.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of an addiction medicine fellowship preferred.
  • Five (5) years' experience in Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full spectrum medical care, including diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic conditions
  • Lead and manage Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs for patients with substance use disorders
  • Evaluate and manage co-occurring medical and behavioral health conditions
  • Support patients through withdrawal and recovery with evidence based, compassionate care
  • Educate and counsel patients and families on treatment, prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and community resources to ensure continuity of care
  • Precept and mentor medical residents and students
  • Participate in quality improvement, peer review, and organizational initiatives
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation
  • Participate in after-hours on-call rotation and provide backup consultation to fellow PTHA providers
  • Engage in Peer Review, quality improvement initiatives, and organizational reporting processes
  • Serve as a preceptor for medical students and residents, supporting the PTHA Family Medicine Residency Program
  • Collaborate with medical schools as adjunct faculty when available
  • Perform hospital rounding for PTHA patients as scheduled (rounding only)
  • Demonstrate professionalism, self-care, and respect for Indigenous cultures, traditions, and values
  • Support infection control protocols and safety requirements
