About The Position

Candor is seeking a passionate Adaptive PE Teacher to empower students and schools. This role involves supporting students with visual impairments to foster independence, academic success, and equitable access to their educational environment. The position is for 1 day per week.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Adapted Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Special Education, or a related field.
Valid Texas Educator Certification in Physical Education issued by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
Knowledge of special education laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Familiarity with the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) process.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in Adapted Physical Education, Special Education, Kinesiology, or a related field.
Additional certification, endorsement, or specialized training in Adapted Physical Education.
Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
CPR and First Aid certification.
Bilingual skills.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with ARD committees to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that address each student's unique physical, motor, and functional needs, ensuring meaningful participation in educational and physical activities.
Deliver individualized and small-group adaptive physical education services focused on motor development, physical fitness, movement skills, coordination, balance, recreational skills, and lifelong wellness.
Collect, analyze, and document student performance data to evaluate progress toward IEP goals and determine the effectiveness of instructional strategies, making adjustments as needed to support student growth.
Work closely with general education teachers, special education staff, occupational therapists, physical therapists, related service providers, administrators, and families to ensure students receive comprehensive support across all educational environments. Actively participate in ARD meetings and multidisciplinary discussions.
Advocate for and implement accommodations, modifications, adaptive equipment, and instructional strategies that support students' participation in general physical education classes, extracurricular activities, and school-based programs.
Teach students skills that promote physical independence, community participation, recreation, self-advocacy, and lifelong health and fitness.
Develop and implement safe physical activity programs that address students' individual abilities and needs while fostering confidence, independence, social interaction, and participation in school and community settings.
