About The Position

This position works in support of the Division of Domestic and Sexual Violence Services (DSVS). The role involves serving as a first-level supervisor, providing direction to a group of behavioral health professionals who deliver group and individual therapy through a domestic violence intervention program called Anger and Domestic Abuse Prevention and Treatment (ADAPT). The supervisor will plan, assign, review, and manage the day-to-day activities of a team of professional domestic violence counselors. Key responsibilities include providing clinical supervision and best practice guidance to enhance victim/survivor and community safety, triaging and assessing risk levels of individuals who cause harm, and directing the team in providing services based on risk and clinical need. The role operates within the clinical services continuum, supporting the division's mission to reduce interpersonal violence and ensuring services are delivered in a timely, accurate, courteous, and effective manner, adhering to federal, state, and local policies, procedures, and clinical practices. The supervisor will also provide direction, guidance, and training on policy and best practices for the ADAPT program, supervise support and administrative staff for special projects, and perform related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college with at least a master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or nursing plus three years of clinical experience or a doctoral degree in psychology, social, counseling or nursing plus one year of clinical experience.
  • Must be eligible to be licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia in one of the following: Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner or Licensed Nurse Practitioner.
  • Knowledge of domestic and sexual violence, best practices of co-occurring treatment, and methods/approaches to address them.
  • Knowledge of intersections of interpersonal violence, marginalization, gender and systemic oppression.
  • Extensive knowledge of regulations and guidelines relating to domestic violence intervention programs.
  • Ability to facilitate groups with preferred previous experience working within a domestic violence intervention program.
  • Ability to maintain professional ethics and confidentiality of client information.
  • Knowledge of how to accurately apply, interpret and administer clinical regulations and Standards of domestic violence intervention programs and counseling services.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of clinical supervision, professional development, and performance management.
  • Thorough knowledge of how to plan and direct the activities of licensed and professional clinical staff with preferred ability to provide clinical supervision towards licensure.
  • Ability to conduct quality improvement to include identification, analyzing, managing, and reporting key performance indicators that enhance programmatic and divisional outcomes.
  • Progressive experience establishing, developing, and maintaining partnerships with individuals and organizations that enhance the coordinated community response for intimate partner abuse intervention.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to travel to various locations throughout Fairfax County to provide coverage, attend meetings, and trainings not accessible by public transportation.
  • Ability to use keyboard driven equipment and other automated technology to access, input, retrieve, and process information.
  • Work requires performing tasks with risk of secondary traumatic stress.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia in one of the following: Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner or Licensed Nurse Practitioner
  • At least 5 years of clinical experience with populations that include domestic violence, court mandated individuals, and directing treatment planning for those impacted by interpersonal violence.
  • At least 5 years of experience directing the activities of clinicians or behavioral health practitioners to include clinical supervision, professional development, and performance management.
  • Demonstrated experience in broadly addressing the impacts of domestic or sexual violence with those that cause interpersonal harm.
  • Experience providing trauma-informed, evidence-based mental health/behavioral health care interventions for adults.
  • Completed and applied professional training in a trauma-specific treatment modality.
  • Experience providing counseling/advocacy services to children/teens or adults focused on addressing the impact of domestic or sexual violence.
  • Professional experience training staff and clients, oral presentations/public speaking, court testimony, project management, meeting facilitation, and conflict resolution/mediation.
  • Bilingual in English and another language.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direction, guidance and training on policy and best practices for ADAPT program.
  • Supervises other support and administrative staff for special projects and performs related work as required.
