About The Position

The Coordinator of Accommodations and Disability Access plays a pivotal role in ensuring that enrolled and prospective students with documented disabilities have equitable access to University programs, services, and activities. This position is responsible for developing and implementing academic adjustments, auxiliary aids, and comprehensive support services tailored to the diverse needs of our student body. The Coordinator will provide guidance and oversight on policy matters related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), conducting pertinent research, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. A strong commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as student development and universal design, is essential for advancing university-wide initiatives. Central to this role is the ongoing management of student cases, facilitating the necessary accommodations and support to empower students in their pursuit of academic success. The Coordinator will be attuned to the unique challenges faced by a varied student population and will collaborate closely with the Student Affairs division to enhance the overall student development experience in alignment with the mission of a Sinsinawa Dominican Catholic liberal arts university.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, special education, or a closely related field is essential for this role.
  • In-depth knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and other relevant laws governing higher education and disability services.
  • Comprehensive understanding of assistive technology and digital resources designed to support diverse learning needs.
  • Familiarity with a range of support services tailored to meet the unique needs of students with psychological, learning, visual, hearing, mobility, and other disabilities in the post-secondary education context.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically in both oral and written forms to various stakeholders, including students, faculty, and administrative personnel.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a diverse, team-oriented environment, fostering collaboration and inclusivity.
  • Track record of designing and implementing innovative programs that engage pre-college and college-age students, promoting active participation in initiatives.
  • Strong organizational abilities, with a proven capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the review, evaluation, outreach, and implementation of accommodations, ensuring compliance with ADA standards and institutional policies.
  • Provide expert consultation to faculty and students on implementing reasonable accommodations that align with course learning objectives to foster an inclusive academic environment.
  • Manage the exam accommodation process, including communication with students and faculty, setup of necessary technologies, and supervision of exams in the Academic Success Center.
  • Maintain and assess the inventory of assistive technology resources, conducting research and recommending new acquisitions to meet evolving student needs.
  • Collect and analyze service data in partnership with division leads to assess effectiveness, inform planning, and generate periodic reports.
  • Assist in developing and implementing systems for ADA compliance, including documentation retention and case management processes.
  • Ensure the secure management of disability records, safeguarding student confidentiality in accordance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.
  • Oversee the fulfillment of alternate text requests to ensure accessibility for all students.
  • Evaluate and determine the necessity for course substitutions and waivers, collaborating closely with deans and academic departments.
  • Conduct comprehensive intake interviews for students seeking accommodations, utilizing a thorough understanding of their needs to determine appropriate support measures.
  • Analyze psychosocial and medical documentation to assess service eligibility, evaluate disability-related needs, and formulate individualized academic accommodation plans.
  • Partner with the SOAR (Summer Orientation and Registration) team to facilitate a seamless transition for admitted students, ensuring targeted training and connection points for students, families, and staff.
  • Develop and implement ongoing professional development opportunities for faculty and SSE staff in collaboration with the Center for Teaching and Learning to enhance their understanding of universal design principles, adaptive technology, and effective accommodation strategies.
  • Serve on collaborative teams, including the Student Care Team and the Assessment and Care Team, to deliver integrated support and coordinated care for students facing complex challenges.
  • Assist in designing and proposing policies and procedures that promote inclusivity and universal design across programs and facilities, collaborating with key stakeholders such as Admissions, Dining, Housing, and the Office of Justice, Equity, and Inclusion.
