About The Position

Hartford Hospital, an 867-bed tertiary care academic medical center in Hartford, Connecticut, is seeking a board-certified/board-eligible Acute Care Surgeon to join a high-volume, well-established, and expanding Acute Care Surgery (ACS) service. Affiliated with the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Hartford Hospital is a designated American College of Surgeons (ACS) Level I Trauma Center and serves a regional catchment population of over 1.5 million. As part of Hartford HealthCare’s nine-hospital integrated system, this role offers the opportunity to practice at one of the highest-volume surgical hospitals in the Northeast within a rapidly growing academic and clinical environment. The Acute Care Surgery division provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary care across trauma surgery, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery. Key highlights of the program include a nationally recognized Level I Trauma Center with a longstanding legacy in trauma innovation and leadership, supported by LifeStar helicopter EMS service. The division has made foundational contributions to national trauma initiatives including the ATOM course, Stop the Bleed campaign, and Hartford Consensus. Annual clinical volume includes over 2,600 trauma patients, 1,100+ surgical ICU admissions, and 1,500+ emergency general surgery cases. The program is supported by a growing faculty of 14 Acute Care Surgeons, with continued expansion underway, and home to four Surgical Critical Care fellowship positions, including three AAST-approved two-year Acute Care Surgery fellowships. There is active collaboration with the Chest Wall Injury Society.

Requirements

  • BE/BC Acute Care Surgery
  • Eligible to be licensed in CT
  • Completion of a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care across trauma surgery, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery.
  • Teach medical students, residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers (APPs).
  • Engage in research and innovation, including AI-driven hypotension prediction models and VR technology for pre-operative visualization.
  • Participate in national trauma initiatives and present at national meetings.
