About The Position

The Division of General Surgery at Royal Columbian Hospital is seeking acute care general surgeons to join their team. The successful candidates will be committed to patient care, resident, fellow and medical student education, and scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine. It is essential that the ideal candidate effectively works in a collaborative environment to promote acute surgical care within RCH and the Fraser Health Authority. A locum opportunity for one week of ACS service prior to the application deadline is available. There are currently 10 general surgeons in the group, including subspecialty hepatobiliary, surgical oncology, colorectal, breast, and trauma/acute care surgeons. Call is structured using an acute care surgery model. The successful candidate is requested to work a minimum of 12 weeks per year, with the option of working more. As a member of the Fraser Health medical staff, you will participate in the University of British Columbia (UBC) medical education program and are expected to apply for a clinical faculty appointment in the Division of General Surgery, UBC. RCH is the regional referral hospital and a level 1 trauma center serving over 1.9 million people. Located in New Westminster, 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver, RCH has 675 inpatient beds and new operating suites opening in Fall 2026.

Requirements

  • Excellent clinical and surgical skills
  • Interest in medical education, quality improvement, and clinical research
  • Must hold CMPA, FRCSC, and CSPBC credentials

Nice To Haves

  • Fellowship training in Trauma and/or Acute Care Surgery is desirable
