About The Position

University Medical Center is seeking experienced nurses for its 11 Acute Care Units. These units cater to a diverse range of patient populations and medical conditions, including cardiology, general medical-surgical, neurology, oncology, surgery, trauma, and transitional recovery. The role involves providing comprehensive patient care, managing various diagnoses, and utilizing advanced nursing skills in a dynamic acute care environment. Requirements

  • Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive cardiac monitoring and management of patients with arrhythmias, heart failure, myocardial infarction, and post-cardiac procedures.
  • Manage patients in custody or incarcerated, ensuring safety and appropriate care.
  • Administer blood transfusions, blood products, and radioactive iodine therapy.
  • Provide symptom management and supportive care for general medical patients, including those with hematology, pathology, palliative care, sickle cell anemia, gynecology, rheumatology, urology, and chronic diseases.
  • Care for diverse medical-surgical patients with conditions such as renal needs, stable cardiac conditions, and complex comorbidities.
  • Perform telemetry monitoring, central line care, bladder scanning, IV management, and wound care.
  • Manage patients requiring isolation precautions (airborne, droplet, contact).
  • Provide care for patients with vascular conditions like DVT and PE, and manage sepsis.
  • Care for non-ICU trauma patients.
  • Manage patients with neurological conditions including CVA, Traumatic Brain Injuries, seizures, craniotomy/craniectomy, and spinal surgeries.
  • Provide care for observation patients with cardiac, respiratory, metabolic, and infectious conditions.
  • Administer chemotherapy and blood products.
  • Provide care for oncology patients, including those with cancer, cancer treatment-related admissions, benign hematology, and surgical oncology.
  • Care for general surgery patients undergoing procedures like abdominal washouts, appendectomies, and hernia repairs.
  • Provide care for vascular/reconstruction surgery patients, breast surgeries, and skin grafts.
  • Manage colorectal surgery patients with fistulas, inflammatory bowel disease, and cancer.
  • Care for genitourinary surgery patients undergoing renal surgeries, bladder procedures, and pelvic organ prolapse repairs.
  • Manage skin grafts and flap checks.
  • Provide care for trauma patients with penetrating wounds, perforating wounds, multiple gunshot wounds, blunt trauma, falls, and total hip/knee replacements.
  • Manage fractures including traumatic, pathological, and stress fractures.
  • Provide care for patients undergoing weight loss surgery (gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, duodenal switch) and general surgery hernia repairs.
