About The Position

Mayo Clinic is seeking a dedicated and skilled healthcare professional to join our Transplant Abdominal Surgery team. This role focuses on providing inpatient post-operative management for kidney, pancreas, and liver transplant recipients. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant possesses advanced health assessment and decision-making skills, prepared through a formal educational program and certified by an approved certifying body. They collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver care across the continuum. Responsibilities include comprehensive assessment, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications and treatments, and providing non-pharmacological therapies. Nurse Practitioners also focus on teaching and counseling, while Physician Assistants monitor therapeutic intervention effectiveness, make referrals, and perform minor procedures as approved. This role requires knowledge of growth and development across the life span and the ability to interpret age-specific patient information. The individual demonstrates leadership through committee involvement, team projects, education, research, and performance improvement initiatives. Active participation in professional organizations and community activities is encouraged. Practice is guided by the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Advanced Practice Registered Nursing, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and Rules of the Arizona State Board of Nursing. During the selection process, candidates may participate in an OnDemand (pre-recorded) interview.

Requirements

  • Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program (for Acute Care Nurse Practitioner).
  • Current AZ RN and APRN license and certification as a ACNP (for Acute Care Nurse Practitioner).
  • Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program (for Physician Assistant).
  • Current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the AZ State Board of Medical Practice (for Physician Assistant).
  • Active BLS, ACLS and RN First Assist certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross at start date.
  • DEA registration required.

Responsibilities

  • Providing inpatient post-operative management for kidney, pancreas, and liver transplant recipients.

  • Providing primary health care and/or specialty-specific care to individuals and families.
  • Performing comprehensive assessments.
  • Ordering, conducting, and interpreting diagnostic tests.

  • Prescribing non-pharmacological therapies.
  • Teaching and counseling individuals, families, and groups (for Nurse Practitioners).
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions (for Physician Assistants).
  • Making appropriate referrals.
  • Performing minor procedures as approved by the AZ Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span.
  • Assessing data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpreting information relative to the patient's age-specific needs.
  • Demonstrating leadership through involvement on committees and team projects, education, and research.
