About The Position

Exciting opportunity at MSK: We are seeking an Accupuncturist to join our Integrative Medicine team! Role Overview: Assesses therapeutic needs and goals of patient in collaboration with physician/health care team and patient. Prepares a written individual plan of care for each patient suitable to the patient’s medical status (e.g., type of cancer, stage of cancer, physical condition, etc.) so that appropriate use of acupuncture is applied Ensures that acupuncture activities are conducted under safe conditions. Advises physician/health care team of any contraindications to acupuncture, special precautions, marked changes in a patient’s condition, and unusual incidents. Communicates procedures and plan of care to the patient prior to the therapeutic session. Monitors feedback from the patient throughout session. Elicits feedback from patient regarding quality of care. Coordinates and assists as needed in preparing patients for acupuncture. Assists and/or instructs patients to dress, undress, don and doff assistive devices (e.g., braces, prostheses, etc.) prior to and after acupuncture. Assists or supervises transport of patients to and from treatment areas, when needed. Documents effectiveness of therapy for each patient. Documents acupuncture treatments provided on the day the service is given, including patient’s reaction to treatment. Provides progress notes to health care team as requested. Provides acupuncture to patients in the hospital and/or at outpatient locations to help relieve clients'/patients' symptoms and promote well-being. Works within the department's goals and procedures and the MSKCC's policies and mission. Attends conferences, meetings and symposiums as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a related CAM therapy such as Acupuncture, or equivalent from an accredited acupuncture college
  • New York State Licensure as an Acupuncturist (issued by New York State Education Department)
  • 2+ years experience in a clinical acupuncture role or integrative therapy capacity, preferably with oncology patients
