About The Position

This is not a traditional acupuncture role. At Central City Concern (CCC), you’ll use your skills on the front lines… supporting individuals navigating homelessness, substance use, and complex medical and behavioral health needs. Your work directly helps stabilize withdrawal symptoms, reduce cravings, improve sleep, and create moments of calm in environments where that’s often hard to find. This role offers purpose-driven care, an integrated team model, and flexible, dynamic work across various sites like Hooper Detox, Blackburn Center, and Letty Owings.

Requirements

  • Licensure in Oregon
  • Strong grounding in Chinese medicine (including detox protocols)
  • Ability to engage patients with empathy, professionalism, and sound clinical judgment, especially in high-acuity, fast-moving settings.
  • Licensed acupuncturist in the State of Oregon.
  • Must meet CCC privileging requirements as required by FTCA.
  • Experience working in a community health clinic.
  • Current Adult and Child/Infant CPR certification prior to start.
  • Must generally have the ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, reach, pull and lift heavy objects, and climb stairs with reasonable or no accommodation.
  • Able to climb stairs several times’ a day.
  • Ability to adhere to Central City Concern’s drug-free workplace policy.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, TB test, and background check. This includes clearance by the DHS Background Check Unit. Must be approved by the Childcare Background Check Unit.
  • Must adhere to agency’s non-discrimination policies.
  • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers and clients with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, political affiliation, cultural backgrounds, life-styles and sexual orientations, and treat individuals with respect and dignity.
  • Knowledge, training, skill and experience in all aspects of Chinese medicine, including detoxification, chemical dependency treatment and general medical treatment.
  • Ability to consider impacts of systems of oppression, structural racism, and individual bias on client outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to trauma-informed care principles.
  • Experience with care for individuals with complex substance use and mental health backgrounds.
  • Ability to exhibit strong nursing judgment in the care of complex participants and knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
  • Ability to treat all diagnoses in clinical setting, including, but not limited to, chemical dependency, general medical, HIV, Hep C with knowledge and ability to prescribe herbal/nutritional supplements.
  • Knowledge, training, skills and experience in chemical dependency intervention; ability to work in an atmosphere where people may be hostile or abusive.
  • Ability to be a team leader/member and be a creative problem solver.
  • Ability to work effectively with peers, individual clients and groups; ability to display nonjudgmental attitude.
  • Ability to work as a community educator.
  • Knowledge of de-escalation methods.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity and physical ability to perform assigned tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstration of a working knowledge of prescription of herbal and nutritional supplements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide acupuncture treatments, complete assessments, and support care plans for patients with substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and chronic medical needs.
  • Manage symptoms like cravings, anxiety, and insomnia while contributing to a trauma-informed, culturally responsive care environment.
  • Performs exams, evaluations, patient work-ups and acupuncture treatments.
  • Reviews client records when necessary for proper documentation, authorization, referrals and billing.
  • Interdepartmental communications regarding policies, procedures and coordination of patient care.
  • Quality assurance/quality improvement of client care.
  • Oversight of OSHA regulations and compliance.
  • Attendance of staff meetings, attend all in-service trainings relative to scope of position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to all state and federal privacy regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2, and to CCC policies and agreements regarding confidentiality, privacy, and security.
  • Support compliance with all privacy and security requirements pursuant to community partners’ and outside providers’ patient confidentiality agreements, including privacy and security requirements for EMR access.
  • Immediately reporting any breach of protected health information or personal identification information of any person receiving CCC services by CCC or an outside provider to the CCC Compliance Department, as well as to your supervisor or their designee.
  • Manage patient flow during assigned shifts.
  • Manage time and meet deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate records and necessary paperwork.
