About The Position

National Interstate, a member of Great American Insurance Group, is a leading commercial transportation insurer offering risk financing solutions nationwide. We are seeking an Actuarial Trainee for our 2027 Graduate Development Program, Ignition. This program is a month-long cohort designed to provide recent graduates with a comprehensive understanding of our business through a blend of instructor-led, self-paced, and hands-on training. Participants will gain insights into our business model, value proposition, and the impact of individual roles, while immersing themselves in our company culture. The program will explore cross-functional areas, develop key professional skills, and strengthen relationships through team-building and social activities. The program will take place in June 2027, with the role based in our Richfield, Ohio office. Our culture emphasizes connection, shared learning, and strong relationships, with employees expected to be on-site four days a week and one day remotely. Core in-office days are Tuesday-Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs. This position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Field of Study: Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Generally, 0 to 6 months of related experience.
  • Prepares to sit for 1st Actuarial Exam.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred for at least 1 exam to be passed.

Responsibilities

  • Learns various actuarial techniques and procedures.
  • Becomes familiar with company operations, systems, and actuarial methodologies.
  • Updates data in established pricing and reserving analyses.
  • Becomes familiar with basic statistical techniques.
  • Improves upon basic knowledge in Excel and introduced to programming and other actuarial software.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
