Actuarial Summer Intern - Actuarial Services
About The Position
The Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau of California (WCIRB) offers a 10-week paid internship program for the Summer. This program provides hands-on training in Actuarial Science or Research, focusing on various workers' compensation topics. Interns will work on challenging projects alongside skilled staff, gaining practical experience and developing problem-solving skills. The internship is a part-time opportunity, working 30 hours per week for ten weeks, with four days on-site in the San Francisco, CA office. Interns will be paid $28.00 per hour. Participants are responsible for their own housing and transportation.
Requirements
- Third- or Fourth-year undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in science, math, statistics, economics, actuarial science or related field or a graduate with a credential in one of these fields
- GPA of 3.2 or greater on 4.0 scale
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical projects to colleagues
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Able to work independently and collaborate with colleagues to solve challenging problems
- Familiarity with Excel
- Experience with R required
- Eligible to work in the United States with no restrictions
Nice To Haves
- Experience with SQL preferred
- Completion of at least 1 Actuarial exam preferred but not required
Responsibilities
- Learn about various workers' compensation insurance data, such as workers’ compensation policy and claims data, and medical and indemnity transaction data
- Analyze and internally present data for actuarial research studies
- Receive coaching and professional development from department leaders and learn about our organization and industry
