About The Position

Milliman’s Mountain Gulf Health Practice is looking for motivated current college students or recent graduates interested in a full-time summer internship. Actuarial interns have the opportunity to perform data analysis to assist with consulting for various health insurance work areas, such as: Commercial / ACA, Behavioral Health, Risk Adjustment, Medicare Advantage and Part D, Medicaid, Dental, and more. This position provides opportunities for professional growth and technical skill development in the healthcare actuarial field.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled and returning to, or recently graduated from an accredited University, or changing careers to the actuarial field
  • Working towards, or completed, a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Economics, or another major with quantitative course work
  • At least one Society of Actuaries exam passed
  • Solid understanding of basic actuarial concepts
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to express technical concepts verbally and in writing to diverse audiences
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Curiosity
  • Strong desire to learn
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to learn existing processes quickly
  • Ability to apply knowledge and concepts to a variety of different tasks
  • Strong organizational abilities and time-management skills
  • Individual(s) must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for immigration support or sponsorship from Milliman now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship(s) in health and/or actuarial-related work experience is beneficial but not required
  • Exposure to programming (R, SAS, SQL, Python, VBA) is beneficial but not required
  • Junior or Senior standing, or recently graduated is preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Perform analyses using spreadsheets, databases, and other resources to clean, synthesize, and analyze data and information
  • Communicate results to peers and project leaders
  • Review the work of your peers
  • Prepare and document project files
  • Assist with research and business development projects
  • Gain valuable experience working with health care data using a variety of software applications
