About The Position

This ten-week paid internship program is designed to provide interns with hands-on experience in actuarial functions at HCSC. Interns will work closely with management and actuarial students on major departmental tasks, including modeling experience, data gathering and compilation, database design and maintenance, and report production. Past projects have involved modeling provider payments and discounts, redesigning forecasting models, converting reserve models, and preparing financial statements. The role emphasizes owning project components, conducting research, analyzing data, developing recommendations, collaborating with cross-functional teams, supporting departmental initiatives, and delivering a final presentation to leadership. Maintaining confidentiality and complying with relevant policies is also crucial.

Requirements

Pursuing a bachelor’s degree; rising senior with a major in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance, computer science or economics. Other majors may be considered.
Completion of or plans to complete 1 ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) exam by graduation.
Graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.
Available for the full duration of the 10-week program.
Demonstrated intellectual curiosity, strong communication skills, and a collaborative, learning-oriented mindset.
Working proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and general comfort with virtual collaboration tools.
Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available for this role.

Responsibilities

Own components of project work and deliverables with guidance from an assigned mentor and manager.
Conduct research, analyze data and information, and develop recommendations that inform real business decisions.

Develop and deliver a final internship presentation to department leadership covering the project, results, and recommendations.
